Caloplaca flavovirescens stained ascus.

Asci are slightly club-shaped (clavate). They become blue when treated with potassium iodide. When first treated with potassium hydroxide a dark blue outer band appears at the ascus tip with a lighter blue section beneath. Only a small number of genera have asci that will stain in this manner.
