Caloplaca flavovirescens

To the naked eye apothecial discs are bright orange. But in thin section they appear brown with only a tinge of orange. A drop of potassium or sodium hydroxide applied to the thallus surface, an apothecial disc or the thin section to the left, will produce an instant deep purple reaction typical of all orange pigmented parts of any species within the genus.
