Mycoporum acervatum thallus.

The fruiting bodies of this genus are in the form of perethecia. (See Pyrenula cruenta for an explanation of this type of ascoma). In Mycoporum the perethecia are frequently joined or compound but each perethecium has its own opening (ostiole) through which the spores are dispersed.
