Pertusaria xanthodes

The Pertusaria species we have found in Subtropical Florida have their fruiting structures buried in thalline warts such as those shown here. In most of our species the wart has several pores opening to the surface. These can be seen in the left photo as tiny green dots on the summit of the warts. Occasionally this same species can look superficially very different. In the right photo some of the warts have merged, the tops have eroded away and the ostioles are no longer visible except under magnification. |
