Phyllopsora buettneri thallus.

This genus demonstrates a different type of lichen thallus called squamulose. It consists of overlapping leafy lobules (i.e. small lobes). In other squamulose lichen genera the lobes are often much larger than P. buettneri. Notice the apothecia have no margins. With many lichens that have apothecia, the margins may be present when young but recede or even disappear as they mature.
