Trypethelium eluteriae

Spore Ascus

Thin Section

Thallus

Lichen Index

Elongated, cylindrical, or slightly baseball bat shaped (clavate) asci are characteristic of this genus. They do not stain with iodide solutions. But the spores do stain slightly bluish which helps to reveal both spore and ascus characteristics. Also indicative of the genus is the branched and loosely reticulent nature of the paraphyses seen in the left, top, center of the photo.
