Trypethelium variolosum

The black in our photo represents the carbonized cavity walls of the perethecia. Carbonization is indicated by a noncellular, opaque internal structure. If cells can be seen in any black lichen part, it is probably not carbonized. Part of the thallus cortex (upper surface) can be seen in the upper left.
