Graphina subvirginalis thin section.

The margins of this graphid are not carbonized. Abundant crystals can be seen in the thallus beyond both apothecial margins. Some of these are evident in the hypothecium and smaller ones in the hymenium. These were inadvertently spread there in the thin sectioning process and are not found in these positions naturally. Large spores are present in the left side of the ascomata. The asci of this particular specimen contained only 2 spores each. However, the number of spores per ascus of G. subvirginalis is variable and may number from 2-8.
